WINTER WEDDING AT WASING PARK
A winter wedding at Wasing Park, what could be lovelier. I was delighted to be asked to photograph Rebecca and Jack’s Wasing Park wedding, alongside my friend Roy, enjoying a day off from his Fleet Street duties. It can be a good idea to have two photographers at a wedding if you are looking for 2 specific views of the ceremony for example, or want shots of both the bride and groom getting ready. Roy photographed Rebecca getting ready in the bridal suite, while I was with Jack and his groomsmen in one of the cottages. Their wedding took place just days before Christmas, and it was such a joyful time of the year to get married.
Saying that Wasing Park is a downright beautiful wedding venue would be an understatement.
As you drive through the Gatehouse to enter a massive private estate nestled deep in the countryside, the Aldermaston wedding venue gradually comes into view – a wonderland of rural seclusion and intricately designed 18th century buildings.
I think ‘charming’ would be the word. Offering a number of options to hold the ceremony, It is home to a variety of buildings all unique and with their own character. A stand-out is the 15th century Parish Church of St Nicholas, standing proudly and rather dramatically amidst acres of beautiful gardens. Exclusive, peaceful, intimate and steeped in history.
Alternatively, if you fancy saying “I do” beneath a blue sky, you can take everything outdoors and tie the knot at the Victorian Summerhouse. Your aisle will be a pathway through a beautifully landscaped garden. An idyllic garden wedding ceremony. All you need to do is bring the good weather with you.
GARDEN ROOM WEDDING AT WASING PARK
The Garden Room where Rebecca and Jack had their ceremony is an elegant contemporary space. Set amidst a private, walled garden, the room, with large windows, is warm and inviting even on a winters day. After the ceremony, guests can wander out in the gardens with a glass of champagne. A good time to photograph some groups as well as natural candid photos, before a short stroll over to The Castle Barn for the evening celebrations.
Dramatic oak beams, mood lighting and candlelight set the scene as you sit down for dinner in The Castle Barn with your loved ones. Conclude your wedding reception by delivering the well rehearsed punchlines of your speech to up to 140 guests. To boogie the night away the barn will hold 250 John Travolta’s, enough to ensure a full dance floor and get the party started.I always stay to photograph at least an hour of the guests dancing. It feels like a half finished job to leave straight after the speeches. For late night nibbles you can choose to have street stalls outside. Rebecca and Jack had fresh pizza on offer outside on the terrace. Perfect for a chilly winter night.
